Medical society award for two Hertfordshire doctors

TWO doctors have been commended for their outstanding work in the medical industry.

Dr Collas and Dr Barlow, who both work within the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, received a medical society awards.

At the President’s Prize Meeting of the West Herts and Watford Medical Society, Dr Collas was awarded for setting up an acute stroke service.

At the same ceremony, Dr Barlow was commended for introducing transbronchial node aspiration for staging lung cancer.

Dr Collas, who is a consultant physician for elderly care, said: “I am proud to receive this award on behalf of all the staff who are part of the Hyperacute Stroke Service.

“This includes ambulance drivers, A&E doctors and nurses, radiographers and x-ray doctors and of course our stroke specialist nurse, Pat Jacob, who is the lynch pin in all this.”

He added: “We are delighted whenever we get a call, and see and treat a patient with the prospect of a major early improvement.”

Dr Barlow, consultant of respiratory medicine, said: “My thanks must go to the entire lung cancer team at Watford but in particular the departments of pathology, radiology and the endoscopy unit for their hard work and co-operation.”
