ST ALBANS MEP Richard Howitt spoke at a rally for peace in the Middle East on Saturday, alongside rock musicians Brian Eno and Annie Lennox - but his official comment makes no criticism whatsoever of the massive Israeli attack on Gaza.
His press release, issued today, merely quotes the Labour MEP as telling the Hyde Park rally : "“Over the last few weeks hundreds of people have been killed in Gaza, many of them innocent children.
“People from across Hertfordshire and the world are calling on politicians to find a path to peace and end these tragic deaths.
“ I am calling for an end to the conflict and am doing all I can in Europe to work towards a peaceful solution in the Middle East."
The Israeli attack on the densley populated Palestinian area of Gaza has attracted outspoken and vitriolic condemnation around the world, but apologists argue it has been provoked by rocket attacks on civilian areas of Israel.
