PLANS to build 34 houses on Green Belt land on the edge of St Albans are likely to be waved through next week.
Developer George Wimpey has already won outline planning permission to build on the north side of Highfield Lane, and district council officers reccomend that councillors should approve the details in a committee meeting on Wednesday.
As the land, formerly part of Oaklands College and holding several derelict educational buildings, is Green Belt, Secretary of State Hazel Blears has "called in" the outline application for a public inquiry on March 3, whenthe college's ambitious plans for its main Smallford campus will also be decided.
George Wimpey's plans envisage 22 privately occupied houses, and 12 "affordable" socially rented homes.
