The Barclays Premier League could be set for a fantastic finish to the season with Liverpool closing to within 1 point of Manchester United with only 8 games left.
A few weeks ago everyone had written off Liverpool’s chances and thought that the season would be a simple procession but thankfully there is some excitement to get the fans interested.
Add to that the recent Champions League draw which has placed Chelsea and Liverpool together (again), the FA Cup, the push for promotion in the Football League and the return of a resurgent England team under Fabio Capello and things are looking very exciting for football fans.
But perhaps you don’t like football and prefer something like Rugby. And if that’s the case and you also happen to come from Ireland then the last few weeks must have seemed like a dream.
Ireland won their first Grand Slam in 61 years beating Wales 17-15 in a stunning finish to the Championship. Ronan O’Gara sealed the victory with a drop goal 3 minutes from the end to send the whole of Ireland crazy.
England finished second in the table and can take some positives from their campaign with the emergence of Delon Armitage and a renewed Mark Cueto.
This weekend sees the start of the 2009 Formula 1 season in Australia. Reigning World Champion and Stevenage resident Lewis Hamilton will be looking to get off to a good start but preparations for the season hasn’t gone according to plan and his McLaren seem to be struggling to catch Ferrari, Renault and the bookmakers dark horses Red Bull Racing.
Watching Lewis win the World Championship the way he did in the final race in Brazil was gripping. You can only rely on what your being shown on the television and the last few laps were absorbing to watch because something would be happening on one part of the race track and at the same time something else might be happening on track that you don’t know about because the camera hasn’t picked up on it yet.
Lewis probably just goes into the season has the favourite but he is definitely the man to beat.
