POPULAR opera singer Lesley Garrett joined a St Albans-based recycling firm to celebrate 140 years of trading and opened its newly built head office today.
Ms Garrett visited The Pearce Group this afternoon to see how the business is moving from strength to strength, despite the current economic downturn.
To mark the firm's achievements Lesley officially opened the brand new head office in Acrewood Way.
Simon Pearce, managing director, said: “We are very proud of our facilities here and delighted that Lesley Garrett agreed to officially open them for us.
“We are now processing 3,000 tonnes of recycling materials per week and with the acquisition of Kenbay Waste Compaction Systems, we will be able to provide a one-stop recycling solution.”
The new equipment is capable of fitting the entire contents of a waste skip into a polythene waste bag, speeding up the rate of recycling.
Mr Pearce said £4 million has been invested into the business over the last 18 months, giving them the opportunity to transform the way they work.
The money will enable them to recycle paper and plastics as their core business, with the expansion of wood, bottles, cans and glass recycling, which will double the volume of work they get through.
