CAMPAIGNERS against the siting of a mobile phone mast in the area are set to gather in force at a meeting next week.

St Albans District Council's central planning committee are due to consider Orange's proposals for the pole on the corner of Sandpit Lane and Gurney Court Road, with officers recommending it should go ahead despite a huge volume of local opposition.

As previously reported by the Review, Marshalwick councillor, Salih Gagasuz gave up his right to vote against the controversial scheme, so he can speak out against it.

Another ward councillor, Melvyn Teare, has also spoken out in protest of the phone operator's plans, giving up his right to take part in the committee's debate on Monday.

The residents and councillors feel the phone mast would be “ugly” and the site is “totally unsuitable”.
