NEIGHBOURS star Carla Bonner has teamed up with Hertfordshire Constabulary to launch a nationwide campaign to make people more aware of the dangers of conmen burglars.

Carla, who plays feisty Steph Scully in the popular Australian soap, is playing the lead role in this year's Christmas pantomime Cinderella at the Alban Arena.

The campaign Look After Your Neighbour This Christmas is targeting the families, friends and neighbours of the elderly and vulnerable to prevent them becoming victims of conmen.

Chief Inspector Nigel Brown from Community Safety said the campaign was aimed at people with elderly neighbours or relatives living alone who may be targeted by criminals. The campaign aims to ensure vulnerable people know how to protect themselves from unwanted callers.

He said: "These callous offenders don't stop committing crime for Christmas.

"We are asking everyone to look out for their neighbours and ensure that they have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year."

Carla, whose character Steph has breast cancer in the TV soap, said she had been amazed at the amount of publicity the disease had gained through the show.

She said she was more than happy to help Hertfordshire Police with this campaign.

Carla said: "It is important that we all look out for each other and take care of one another over this festive period. Come on, be a good neighbour and let's all have a merry Christmas."
