AN unpopular and formerly struggling St Albans secondary school has been removed from “special measures” after Ofsted inspectors ruled it had markedly improved.
Francis Bacon School in Drakes Drive, which has been massively oversubscribed in recent years, is now described by Ofsted as "satisfactory with some good features."
County council schools boss John Harris said: “A tremendous job has been done by the headteacher, staff and governors, with very good support from the Children Schools and Families department, led by Kate Smith. The leadership by the governing body has been judged as outstanding - a notable achievement led by the chair, Carole Connelly."
Roma Mills, St Albans Labour parliamentary candidate, said: “This is very good news, particularly for the current pupils and their families who have had to put up with so much adverse comment about Francis Bacon.”
