TWO pupils from a St Albans secondary school have tested positive for swine flu just days after health bosses confirmed the virus is impossible to contain in Hertfordshire.

Nicholas Breakspear School has confirmed two cases of the H1N1 virus among its student population.

There are a further six suspected cases at the school in Colney Heath Lane.

A message posted on the school's website today read: "The current situation is that we have two confirmed cases of swine flu and six unconfirmed among the student population.

"We have relayed this information to the Health Protection Agency and asked if there was any further advice.

"They have informed the school that they are advising all schools to stay open on a medical basis and closure should only be considered where there are severe organisational difficulties."

Parents have been warned to keep their children at home and seek medical help if they develop flu-like symptoms.

Schools across the county have been hit with the bug including St Columbus College in King Harry Lane, St Albans and St George's School in Sun Lane, Harpenden, where a pupil tested postive this week.

Heathlands School for Deaf children was also closed on Monday for seven days when a member of teaching staff fell ill.
