PUPILS at a deaf school in St Albans which closed for a week following a suspected case of swine flu have today returned to the classroom.

Heathlands School for Deaf Children in Heathlands Drive was closed on Monday, June 29 last week for seven days after a staff member complained of flu-like symptoms.

As a precaution, around 26 weekly boarding pupils were sent home and a further 98 day pupils were told not to return to school until today.

The member of staff tested negative for the H1N1 virus on Wednesday morning, but the school remained closed.

There have been two confirmed cases of the bug and a number of suspected cases at schools in the district.
