Inquest opened into death of Harpenden Road crash victim

AN inquest has been opened into the death of a motorcyclist who lost the fight for his life in hospital a month after a crash in St Albans.

Derek Hayward was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge on Tuesday, June 23 after he collided with a car in Harpenden Road.

The 38-year-old was critically ill in hospital since he was admitted, but sadly died on Monday, July 6.

A postmortem revealed Mr Hayward of Rye Close, Harpenden, died of multiple traumatic injuries.

The details of his death have been passed to the coroner and the actual cause will be subject to confirmation at an inquest which was opened and adjourned today.
