Terrified Hatfield family threatened by armed robbers

FIVE robbers armed with knives and a bat burst into a Hatfield flat on Monday night, threatening a couple and their young children before escaping with valuable property.

Four men and a woman, all black with covered faces and in their 20s, forced open the door of a flat in Wood Common at about 10.30pm, confronting the terrified couple, a three-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl.

The petrified victims were forced to load a laptop, a mobile phone and a games console into a bag, which the ruthless gang escaped with.

Police Constable Cheryl Tite said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the victims to have gone through and we are treating this incident very seriously. This type of incident is extremely unusual and rare in Hertfordshire and we are not ruling out that it was a targeted incident and therefore isolated.

“I am appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the group of people described in the local area either before or after the incident took place. Also I would like to speak to anyone who may have information.

“Anyone with information can contact me via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 citing crime reference number B2/09/3495."

The victims described the male robbers as of medium build and about five foot six.

Their female accomplice was described as of plump build, also about five foot six, with braided hair in a pony tail.
