A QUARTET of amateur artists exhibited an array of paintings and sketches today, wowing appreciative audiences and raising hundreds of pounds for charity.
Alison Ascott, Anne Hignell, Lena Chandler and Samantha Terry exhibited more than 140 pieces at the Methodist Church Hall, in Harpenden High Street, wowing appreciative audiences and raising hundreds of pounds for charity.
The exhibition, which opened with a private viewing last night (Friday), is the culmination of more than 18 months of hard work. Half of the proceeds raised from sales will go to Grove House and the Harpenden Mencap Society.
Mrs Hignell said: “It’s been really hard work for us all to get this exhibition up-and-running but the response has been fantastic.
“Last night we had about 250 here the private viewing – it was absolutely buzzing. I think we’ve already sold about £2,000 worth of paintings.”
The foursome, who call themselves Artistic Mix, exhibited a wide variety of work, including nude sketches, vivid water colours and a colourful self portrait painted in oils.
Mrs Chandler added: “It’s been a really successful event and we will definitely be doing it again.”
