A POPULAR St Albans school pupil who died of meningitis has been named as Liam Woods.

The year 10 pupil at Beaumont School died at London's Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital on Tuesday night after being taken ill.

Tributes have flooded into a Facebook site set up in memory of the young boy.

Friend George Elliot wrote: "I don't think I ever saw you not smiling and you always gave me sweets in drama when we were probably going to get shouted at for not doing the work.

"Liam I miss you so much and I don't think you know how many people were thinking about you I hope it's nice up there - hopefully one day I can see you again."

Friend Katie Tobin said: "There comes a time for all of us when we must say goodbye, "But memories of those we like live and never die."

Shannon Williamson wrote: "All them funny times we had in Hart Hill Primary School babes, you always knew when to cheer me up. You were always so hyper and happy and you were great to be around, you will be truly missed."

A special assembly was held at the school in Oakwood Drive yesterday to remember Liam. Tributes have also been left at the school.
