BISHOP of St Albans Alan Smith visited Verulamium Museum to learn about the heritage and history of the city last week.
The bishop, who took office in September, went to the Verulamium Park museum on Wednesday, viewing its rich collection of Roman archaeolgical finds and meeting staff.
He told the Review : “The Romans brought many good things to Britain but not all directly. It is quite possibly true that there might not be a St Albans Cathedral without the Romans’ persecution of Christians and execution of Alban 17 centuries ago.
"It is thrilling that so many people come to the museum and the cathedral and learn so much about how our history is rooted in these things. “
During his visit, the bishop admired the museum's recently digitised photograph archive, including pictures of his predecessor Robert Runcie.
