A ST ALBANS charity which runs canal boat trips for the disabled raised nearly £5,000 with a dinner dance on Friday with the help of comedy actress Prunella Scales.
The actress, better known as Sybil Fawlty, was the guest speaker at a dinner dance at the Noke Thistle Hotel in Chiswell Green for the charity Reach Out Projects.
Reach Out Projects, based in Holywell Hill, runs specially adapted boats on the Grand Union Canal at Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead.
Director Ron Overton said: “It's wonderful that so many people came out to support our charity. The money raised will go towards helping young, disadvantaged and disabled people to have truly transformational experiences.
Many of the people we support can feel excluded from society. A trip or holiday on our Reach Out boats can help them to regain a feeling of belonging and a sense of achievement often not available to them.
“We have a team of fantastic volunteers who work with us to make these holidays and trips so enjoyable for those we help. Needless to say we are always on the look out for more willing hands on deck – people who are looking to learn new skills and contribute in a very practical way.”
