The Dressing Room in St Albans picked up the Draper's womenswear retailer of the year award last night, as the fashion industry gathered to celebrate the market's cream of the crop.

The clothes shop in High Street, St Albans, scooped the accolade in recognition of its variety of trends and brands to suit a wealth of fashion-conscious women in their thirties.

Presenting the gong to staff of the St Albans fashion boutique, judges said: "Whether the customer is a yummy mummy or a career-driven London commuter, The Dressing Room has the trends and brands to suit a wealth of fashion-conscious 30-somethings."

The panel also said that they were "blown away" when they visited the store by the attention to detail, the beautiful décor and the excellent staff training programme. On receiving the award, owner Deryane Tadd told the Review: "The biggest thing about it is stores that have won in the past have been trading for 15 to 20 years, we have only been here three years.

"To get best womenswear store in the UK with just three years of trading is phenomenal. We are over the moon."

The awards and gala dinner, held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, celebrates and recognises the achievements of the best retailers and brands in the market.

Jessica Brown, editor of Drapers magazine, said: "It has been a challenging 12 months for the fashion industry, but there have been many outstanding achievements by the retailers and brands at the heart of this, our special sector this year. "I am delighted to report that the Drapers Awards received a record number of entries this year, proving that it is possible to do more than withstand adverse conditions.
