Villagers in Redbourn will be able to exercise on 11 new spinning bikes thanks to a county councillor who decided to boost fitness.
Councillor Maxine Crawley donated £1,000 from her £10,000 “locality budget”, allocated to each member for community projects, to buying the bikes, which are more strenuous than standard exercise bikes, to the Redbourn Community Fitness Programme.
Programme spokesman Brian Hirschfield said: "These spinning bikes normally only appear in privately managed or commercial leisure facilities.
"Spinning bikes are expensive pieces of equipment, so it’s great they are appearing in our fitness programme.”
Councillor Crawley said: “Health and fitness is very important and the fact people can use new purchases on their door-step and not have to pay lots of money to visit an expensive gym is great”.
