A St Albans military fitness instructor has been photographed for a Help for Heroes calendar

A group of military fitness instructors - one of who leads training sessions in St Albans - are hoping pictures of them both in and out of their uniforms will help shift thousands of calendars for an armed services charity.

Instructors from British Military Fitness (BMF) lined up to star in the charity calendar, including Matt Moine, who puts fitness enthusiasts through their paces in Verulamium Park on the last Saturday of the month.

BMF is made up of former and serving armed forces personnel and runs fitness sessions for civilians.

Proceeds from the calendar will go to Help for Heroes. Since the launch in October 2007, the charity has raised £34 million for armed forces personnel who are injury while serving.

Mathew “Mr October” Moine, 36, who lives in Rickmansworth, said: “I spent four years in the Royal Green Jackets, I completed a two-year tour of Northern Ireland so nowhere glamorous or hot unfortunately.

“Fitness is a personal passion, it's very nice to carry that into my working life. I get great satisfaction from seeing people reaching their goals, whether it's weight loss or a half marathon.

“Hopefully people will see all the male instructors having fun but when you peel back the layers they'll see it's for a great charity and a great cause.”

Each calendar will be sold for £9.20 plus postage, with £8 of every sale donated to Help for Heroes.

Lucy Ross, organiser, said: “The calendar was an idea the four of us came up with over drinks after a muddy BMF session at Clapham.

“The BMF instructors are very passionate about what they do and many people forget that they have all served for their country, some in very front line positions.

“This calendar enabled them to support Help for Heroes to help their wounded friends and colleagues.”
