MORE THAN 1,000 people have come forward with offers to support the project to restore the Odeon in London Road as a working cinema.

James Hannaway, who successfully restored the Rex in Berkamsted as a working cinema, has an option to buy the Odeon , which last showed films in 1995, and has appealed to the public to help him raise the cash he needs to work a similar transformation in St Albans.

He has devised a range of sponsorship opportunities, and has been contacted by over 1,000 potential supporters since a public meeting on November 29.
