St Albans sauna causes a stink for firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS have revealed that a suspected sauna fire tackled at a St Albans health club was due to a visitor defecating in the sauna.

On Friday afternoon officers attended Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre (formerly Cannons), in Highfield Park Drive, after staff reported a burning smell.

Using thermal imagery equipment, firemen discovered that despite staff clearing the mess from the sauna coals, a residue had been left, creating an odour, not a fire.
