TESCO is expected to announce its plans for the London Road site in the next couple of months.
The supermarket giant is reviewing its plans for the former Evershed printing works site, despite confirming its plans for a new express store in St Peters Street.
Tesco spokesman Nick Gellatly said: "We are considering our options for the site and in due course we will announce what we are planning to do.
"At the moment we are working on the renovation of the properties around the site. We are not at the moment ready to announce our intentions for the wider site, but we will be doing that in the course of the coming months."
The company has confirmed it has exchanged contracts to buy the empty Woolworths store in St Peters Street, but it has insisted its new plans do not spare London Road from its list of potential sites for development.
