Shoppers enjoy charity art exhibition in St Albans

Shoppers in the bustling centre of St Albans perused a colourful collection of local artworks today in a charity exhibition organised by the city's mayor.

The two day exhibition, at Town Hall, has been organised to raise money for the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Artists from the St Albans and Harpenden art societies purchased exhibition space and then agreed to donate a further ten per cent of any sales made to the charity.

Organiser and mayor Councillor Chris Oxley explained: “I thought this would be a great way to raise the profile of local artists, the CAB, and also the Town Hall itself, which is a wonderful building and a great exhibition space.

“We’ve had a good number of visitors and we have also raised more than £1,000.”

Hundreds of visitors admired, and in many cases bought, a colourful array of paintings, photographs and sculptures.

The exhibition, which includes a range of watercolours from renowned artist David Weston, will continue tomorrow (Sunday) between 10.30am and 4pm.
