MORE than half of the £1million needed to buy the Odeon in London Road has been raised, with the cinema dream fast becoming a reality in St Albans.
Confident that he can stump up the outstanding sum to complete a deal with the developers, cinema entrepreneur James Hannaway is seeking an extension to exchange contracts with the owners of the site Wattsdown.
If the developers honour his request, Mr Hannaway, who restored the Rex in Berkhamsted to its former glory, will have until next Monday to stump up the cash shortfall.
Heritage campaigner Marion Hammant, of St Albans Civic Society, told the Review the total amount raised has surpassed the half way mark and continues to rise.
