A popular bar manager of a local chain died suddenly in his Harpenden home.

David Singleton, owner of Billys Bar and Restaurant in High Street, Harpenden, and Barneys in London Road, St Albans, died at his home in West Common yesterday.

It is thought the 56-year-old Harpenden rugby coach and long-serving supporter of the club suffered a heart attack.

David leaves behind his wife, Jo, and sons, Jack and Michael, who play for the Harpenden rugby squad.
