Arsonists strike following stabbing in Hatfield


ARSONISTS struck at a block of flats in Hatfield just days after a man was stabbed and two others wounded at the address.

A 29-year-old man from Hatfield has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Three other men are wanted for arson and grievous bodily harm following the deliberate blaze at a block of flats in Clayton House, Lemsford Road, on Monday night.

A couple, whose home was targeted, were arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. A 41-year-old man was later released without charge. A 23-year-old woman was also released without charge but cautioned for possession.

Residents had to be evacuated as the fire tore through the block of flats causing damage to a door and hallway at around 11.30pm.

A man was stabbed and two others wounded at the same address on Friday, February 5. The victim suffering from a single stab wound has since been discharged from hospital.

Chief Inspector Dave Newsome said: “We believe this fire is the result of an ongoing dispute between a group of people.

"These are isolated incidents that we are treating extremely seriously and are making every effort to trace all those believed to be responsible.

"My officers are working with the local community to restore feelings of safety and will be available to speak to anyone who has concerns."
