A YOUNG Welwyn Garden City girl battling with a brain tumour was treated to a once-in-a-lifetime trip to meet her music idol.
Georgia Ormond was serenaded by Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine when she and her family were jetted off for a day in London through the Make a Wish Foundation.
The charity, which grants the wishes of children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses, arranged for Georgia to spend time with her favourite singer.
The 12-year-old music fan played the guitar and flute before being diagnosed with the illness. During her time in hospital she fell into a coma and doctors and nurses played her music as it is believed to be therapeutic for people in such situations.
Once Georgia began to recover she underwent radiotherapy twice a day during which she would take Florence’s album 'Lungs' with her to listen to and keep her company throughout the harsh and emotional treatments.
Along with her parents Stephen and Jane and little sister Tasha Georgia spent a special couple of days in London where the family were put up in a plush hotel in London's Chelsea Harbour, they visited the Natural History Museum and enjoyed a day of shopping.
The big day arrived on February 12 for the brave girl as she had the chance to share afternoon tea with Florence.
Armed with a long list of questions for her idol, Georgia took in the experience with joy. She was then serenaded by Florence with her favourite songs.
Speaking of her daughter's overwhelming experience mum Jane said: “Georgia was absolutely over the moon. This has been the most fantastic wish we could have asked for.
“Everyone has bent over backwards for us, especially Florence, who was a complete natural with the girls. There was not a single awkward moment.”
She added: “Georgia is in remission, so it is wonderful for this to be a celebration of her coming through the other side rather than a commiseration that she is poorly.
“We are thrilled. Thanks Make A Wish for making our little girl so happy.”
Before leaving Florence allowed her fan to have a sneak preview at the dress she wore to the Brit Awards on February 16.
Georgia's idol Florence said: “It was a pleasure to meet Georgia and her family. Georgia's questions were the best and most thought out questions I have ever answered.
“It took me a while to answer some of them because I had to think hard about some of my answers – they were pretty deep.”
