A THIRD of children from Colney Heath have failed to win a place in any of their three chosen secondary schools.
Out of 27 village children whose school allocations for September have just been notified to parents, eight have places at Onslow St Audrey's in Hatfield, and one at Francis Bacon in Drakes Drive, St Albans.
District councillor Chris Brazier, who represents the village, said: "The parents are totally gutted.
"Most of the children wanted to go to Beaumont and a few to St Albans Girls' School.
"Colney Heath has no bus link to Hatfield which is a totally different area.
"If they walk they have to go through a tunnel under the motorway - it is not a safe route.
"There is a network of parents in Colney Heath who will all provide lifts to Beaumont, but that is not an option for Onslow.
"I am not saying it is not a good school, but Colney Heath has no links to Hatfield.
"It means more cars on the roads which is against what the county council says about green travel.
"Colney Heath and other villages around St Albans have been hit hard yet again."
