THE World Cup is not the only big event being held this summer - the 2010 Retailer of the Year gala awards evening will also be staged.
Following its resounding success in 2008 and 2009, the event is back for the third successive year.
Last year toy shop Little Wonders was crowned Retailer of the Year following our gala evening at the Alban Arena.
This year's event will again be held at the Arena on June 21.
The competition is a joint initiative between the Review, St Albans District Council, St Albans Civic Society and St Albans District Chamber of Commerce.
This year the campaign has also been sponsored by the Civic Society and Chamber of Commerce.
We will soon publish full details of how you can nominate your favourite retailer.
The six categories will once again be: specialist shops, food and drink, markets trader, restaurants and cafes, hair and beauty and fashion and accessories.
All nominated retailers will be sent a window poster and they will then be put to the test by our team of mystery shoppers.
Our Retailer of the Year committee – which consists of Labour councillor Roma Mills; Liberal Democrat Melvyn Teare; Tory Salih Gaygusuz; Chamber president Sandra Oldfield; civic society member Eric Roberts; council officers Maria Cutler and Charles Baker and Review editor Martin Buhagiar – will then choose an individual category winner and the overall Retailer of the Year.
