A NEW Tesco Express store will be opening in Beech Road, St Albans, on Friday, after a flood of applications for the 17 jobs on offer.
More than 200 people applied for the 17 posts to work alongside five employees transferring from other branches.
Manager Toby Hanlon said: “The response was fantastic. With over ten people applying for each position, I feel we’ve recruited a great team of people and I’m looking forward to working with my new staff.
"We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store in St Albans and look forward to playing an active role in the local community.”
The store will mark its launch with a £500 donation to Heathlands School for deaf children. Pupils will be cutting a ribbon to declare the new store officially open at 10.30am on Friday.
