CHARGES for car parks owned by the district council will be rising from April 5, as the authority's stringent budget proposals come into effect.
All-day parking at locations such as Adelaide Street, Bricket Road North and Keyfield Terrace, as well as the main Harpenden car parks, will rise from £8 to £8.50, while Westminster Lodge will increase from £3 to £3.50.
In addition, the cost of residents' parking permits is rising by 5.6 per cent.
Emma Harding, of Lower Dagnall Street, said: "While it is pleasing to note that the council has frozen council tax for 2010/11, it strikes me that this headline has been achieved through the applying hidden increases to other fees and charges.
"How many other fees and charges will be increased this year to compensate for the Liberal Democrats' one positive headline?"
