Anti-BNP campaigners rally opposition in St Albans tonight

ANTI-BNP activists will meet in St Albans this evening to mobilise opposition against the controversial far right political party ahead of the impending General Election.

Three Counties Unite Against Fascism will hold the meeting at Fleetville Community Centre in Royal Road from 7.30pm.

Anti-fascist campaigner John Berry said: "It's a planning meeting for people to discuss how we may react in St Albans if there are BNP candidates in the forthcoming election. As yet we have no indication that there will be, but if it is the case then they can expect to have fairly vigorous opposition."

The meeting in St Albans coincides with today's Dacorum Borough Council by election in which the BNP is fielding a candidate.

BNP parish councillor for Markyate Simon Deacon said: "As long as it's within the law who cares what they do. They have as much right to speak as anybody else. If I owned a pub and it had a meeting room I would let them hire it."

How pathetic. Can't Mr Berry and his cronies find something more constructive to do?

Im not a BNP supporter (although the recent deplorable behaviour from the Lib Dems and their abuse of power has pushed me slighty further to the right), but if this is a democracy why should any legal party be denied the right to stand in an election? We protect the rights of extremists from other cultures to be able to express themselves, so why are the BNP so different?

Exactly Snorbs, but Mr Berrys rentamob hangers on need an excuse to hurl a few bricks at the police.

If the BNP didn't exist we wouldn't need Mr Berry and his scruffy socialist cronies would we?

On the upside the local burglars will know that the social housing with the Toyota Prius parked outside will be empty during the protest so they can nip in and nick their VHS recorder from 1987..

...oh come on im joking.. i know even smelly liberals wouldnt drive a Prius :)

I have met a couple of members of UAF (not John Berry) several times in a professional capacity and can only say that FatBob (who normally talks a lot of bitter and twisted tripe) is underestimating them as scruffy socialists. Scruffy they may be but they are also of the extreme left and to my view a great deal less pleasant than even Nick Griffin.

The BNP finished in last place again I see. Seems like theres no enthusiasm for their mix of racism and crackpot conspiracy thories. They havent won a single election since their pathetic mumbling grumbling leader was on Question Time
