SHOCKING potholes appearing across the district are beginning to drive motorists mad.
Many unavoidable craters have been highlighted to the Review – including a huge set of holes on the railway bridge in Victoria Street.
As we were setting up our video camera yesterday in preparation for an interview with Lib Dem County Councillor Chris White opposite the contentious hole a motorist took the time to shout out to us: “Is this about the potholes? Tell them to sort it out”.
It has been revealed the particular pothole which is causing a stir with drivers and cyclists, who have to either slow down to pass it or strategically avoid it bearing in mind oncoming vehicles, will not be repaired until owners of the land Network Rail will give access to Hertfordshire Highways to undertake the work.
Commenting on this situation Councillor White said: “I have spoken to Herts Highways about various troblespots.
“One of these is the Victoria Road rail bridge. This is scheduled for urgent works, but Network Rail need to give permission.
“It is never easy in practice dealing with railway companies and so the emergency treatment may not be as early as any of us would like.”
