A MAN from St Albans is preparing for his first marathon with the aid of his best friend Tugs.
David Clamp will be running this year's Virgin London Marathon in aid of Mercy Ships, the international charity that provides free medical and humanitarian care to some of the world's poorest people.
The 43-year-old has recruited his dog Tugs to keep him company on his long training runs.
David, an IT manager, said: “I first heard of Mercy Ships at my local church in St Albans. Learning about the charity inspired me to run the London marathon and support a charity that makes a difference to so many people's lives.
“I was humbled hearing about the volunteers that give up their lives and volunteer on the Africa Mercy. It is an incredible vessel and a symbol of hope to many suffering people.
“I hope that by running the marathon I will not only raise money but I will also increase the awareness of the charity.”
The converted Danish ferry, now a state-of-the-art hospital ship with six operating theatres, X-ray facilities and CT scanner, a pharmacy and a laboratory – with capacity for in-patients.
