St Albans residents thanked again for supporting Odeon cinema restoration

THE residents of St Albans have again been thanked by cinema entrepreneur James Hannaway for answering his plea for cash to restore the dilapidated Odeon in the city centre.

Last week the £1 million mark was reached for Mr Hannaway to buy the London Road site but remained aware more will be needed to bring it back to life.

Speaking today about his ambitious dream to transform the building back to a working cinema Mr Hannaway said: “Raising a million in such a few weeks is all those words from fantastic to heartwarming.

“We haven't had to go to banks for example to secure the price of the building. This is unheard of. So be very proud.

“However it is not ours yet. Then there's the other £2 million to restore it back to glorious life. However the first massive million hurdle is over.”

Mr Hannaway described it as “one of the best local causes for generations to come”.

Mr Hannaway, an entrepreneur, has responded to the wishes of residents in a way we can no longer expect from our autocratic council. Residents with the wherewithal have reacted fanatically.

I note not a word from our local politicians – well what a surprise!

Whoops – I meant fantastically NOT fanatically. It’s the council that is ‘fanatical’ over the Westminster Lodge Scheme!
