St Albans MP: "We need more cash for potholes"

St Albans MP Anne Main challenged the Government to provide more cash for repairing Hertfordshire roads in the House of Commons last night.

She intervened in a speech by Transport Minister Sadiq Khan, pointing out the poor state of local roads after the hard weather, and pleading for more money.

After the debate, she said: "The roads in St Albans are in a dreadful state. We need fairer funding for our area to address this and local roads need urgent repair.

"Hertfordshire Highways has been given a good rating for what it does with the funds available, and Hertfordshire County Council has allocated more funding to the problem, but lack of adequate funding from central government has meant our roads have suffered for many years.

"The situation has reached breaking point and I felt it was important to challenge ministers directly."

The debate itself in the house of commons was called by Anne Main MP

What brass neck! It is not a question of HCC not getting enough money - it is the incompetent way they use it. Ask anyone who has witnessed them repairing a pothole. She should be calling for the Tories at county hall to pull their fingers out.

Or maybe rather than posing for pictures next to pictures, she is actually trying to do something about it. If she didnt try and call the minister to account you would complain she wasn't doing anything.

That's true. Anne Main is the only MP I have heard that is trying to get the roads sorted.

More than likely the whole budget was spanked on the complete resurfacing of Beechwood Avenue. Never fear though, because that was finished in 10 days instead of 21, so they can now get back to the botching jobs. Talking of Beechwood, shame they couldn't get the KEEP CLEAR lines in the right place at the Sandpit Lane junction, eh?
