A HARPENDEN doctor facing misconduct allegations following a bungled operation in which a young sportswoman died will learn his fate in May.

Last month the Review reported how Dr Wasfy Yanny avoided being struck off after being accused of failing to correctly undertake an operation to cure Louise Field of an excessive sweating problem.

He was found guilty, by a General Medical Council (GMC) panel, of being responsible for a string of errors following the surgery at Harpenden's Bupa Hospital, now Harpenden Spire Hospital, on March 20, 2002.

However Dr Michael Ormiston, of Abbey Mill End, St Albans, who was also involved in the surgery, has faced an anxious wait to learn whether he will be able to continue with his career.

He, along with his colleague Dr Yanny of Penny Croft, Harpenden, was found guilty of conduct that fell below the standard expected of a medical practitioner.

A hearing to consider the future of Dr Orminston's medical career will be held at the GMC offices in London on May 4.
