HEALTH chiefs have agreed to give retired vicar Roy Day the hernia operation he needs after the Review highlighted his case.
The 86-year-old was told a week ago that the operation, originally scheduled for May 7, would not be funded, and he feared he would be in considerable pain while conducting an important veterans' service later that month.
But this morning, after his story featured on regional ITV television news on Wednesday, he was told that not only would the operation go ahead, but it has even been brought forward to April 15.
He said: "It is marvellous - it shows the power of the press. I am so grateful to the Review.
"I will have plenty of time to recover for the service - I am really looking forward to it."
