CHILDREN of all ages at a Harpenden school have braved light rain showers today to raise money for Sport Relief.

Pupils at High Beeches Primary tightened their laces in preparation of the 100 mile relay race in which the younger years will run half a mile and the older ones one mile throughout the day.

Paul Driver, head teacher at the school in Aldwickbury Drive, said so far parents and staff have dug deep to gather £300 and hopes to reach the £1,000 mark.

He added: “The children are loving it even though it's started to rain. They have been really excited about it all week.”

The money raised will be added to the pot at Sainsbury's in Harpenden who have held activities for the last month in aid of Sport Relief.

Generous shoppers have been donating and bids have been made for the silent auction of a signed England T-shirt.
