A DARING gang escaped from Park Street yesterday morning after robbing a jewellery salesman of wedding and engagement rings worth thousands of pounds just outside his home yesterday morning.
The victim was followed by car from his workplace in Hatfield, jewellery firm Brown and Newirth, to his home in Park Street, where he was mugged just as he got out of his vehicle at 9.40am.
The four-strong gang grabbed his bag holding about 450 rings before escaping in a blue Toyota Avensis down Park Street Lane, although police are unsure whether they turned left or right down Tippendell Lane.
Bill Rumford, the local Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator told the Review: "I must have missed it by only a few minutes.
"I walked past with my dog at about 9.25am. When I came past again about an hour later, the place was crawling with police."
Brown and Newirth, which is based in Beaconsfield Road, Hatfield, is Britain's largest manufacturer of wedding and engagement rings.
