Colney Heath travellers facing eviction

THE fate of the Robb traveller family, who have been defying planning law for nearly a decade, lies in the hands of the district council and Secretary of State John Denham.

After Peter Robb was this week refused leave to appeal against a High Court decision overturning five-year planning permission for his family to live on their yard off Coursers Lane, Mr Denham is deciding whether to order a fresh public inquiry.

Meanwhile, Colney Heath Parish Council is asking St Albans District Council to evict the family and their caravans.

Councillor Chris Brazier, a prominent member of both local authorities, said: " As far as I am concerned the district council should just get on and do it.

"The enforcement order is already in place, so there is no need to wait for the Secretary of State's decision."
