VOLUNTEERS who have been counselling and comforting the bereaved in St Albans for more than five years were recognised by the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire on Thursday night.
The St Albans Bereavement Network celebrated seven years of helping people coping with tragedy at its annual general meeting at the Vineyard Church, Bricknoll Park.
The High Sheriff, Mrs Janie Wentworth-Stanley, presented awards to long serving volunteers and founders Mary Groves-Rowe and Colin Rowe.
St Albans Mayor Chris Oxley said: "I know your impact from my conversations with people at the Remembrance Service at St Albans Abbey in November.
"You are a fabulous organisation – get yourselves known. Let the world know what you do."
Harpenden Mayor Rosemary Farmer welcomed the establishment of a new support group in her town.
