Hotel backers still upbeat

THE backers of a £30 million hotel complex in Chiswell Green are determined to push it through, despite withdrawing their planning application.

The scheme, the brainchild of former Review owner Alan Drake and his daughter Nicola, was due to come in front of councillors tonight, but has been withdrawn.

Former St Albans MP Kerry Pollard, acting as a consultant to the project, said: "The officers didn't seem to understand this was just outline planning permission.

"Perhaps we went into too much detail. Nothing is set in concrete.

"But we are still absolutely determined.

"I would not be involved if I was not convinced it was good for St Albans.

"The builders are ready to start. It could have people staying in it in only two years time."

He said a revised application would be submitted following consultations with officers over the next few weeks.
