At St Albans station there are barriers and security devices to stop people wandering randomly on to the platform. No such measures in place at Harpenden, there's nothing to stop a determined and desperate person going straight from the street or car park to the fastline platform. No wonder there are so many suicides at this station. Network Rail executives should take the blame for complete absence of security and protection at Harpenden station.

I can't see how installing barriers onto the platform would stop suicidal people.

As you said these people are 'determined and desperate' so climbing over a small barrier is hardly likely to stop someone...

And as for 'so many suicides' at Harpenden station, when was the last one? I don't remember any.
