Hertfordshire Hearing Dogs for Deaf People hold sponsored walk

Hertfordshire Hearing Dogs for Deaf People held a sponsored walk in Greenwood Park today.

Set up in May 1998, the charity has raised £400,000 through its dog shows and other fundraising activities.

Dogs and walkers were invited to take part in a short, medium or long walk around the park in Tippendell Lane.

Liz Arendt, chairman of the Hertfordshire branch, said: “This is anew venture for us, we've never done a sponsored walk before.

"The weather has put a lot of our would be walkers off, but we welcome all participants whether they are sponsored or not.”

The charity currently has 42 dogs, mostly from rescue centres, which help deaf people in everyday life.

Walking around the long route was David Abrahams, owner of a Newfoundland called Cola.

He said: “We've been to the dog shows they organise before, and it might sound silly but Cola needed a walk anyway, so we came along to this.”
