SIXTH-FORMERS who visited Hatfield's University of Hertfordshire experienced both a scuba diving accident and a premature labour.
Luckily for them, they were merely watching, or in some cases joining, scenarios re-enacted in the Hertfordshire Intensive Care & Emergency Simulation Centre, used for training nurses, paramedics and other medical students.
120 sixth-formers from across Hertfordshire visited the university to learn about its courses for careers in the health sector. After watching the scenarios from the observation or control rooms or helping as assistants to the various healthcare disciplines represented, the potential students joined a discussion led by the professionals.
The university's Sharon Cosby said: “The Aimhigher scheme is about making everyone aware of the benefits higher education can bring.
"The event enabled the students to gain a positive overview of the pathways available to them in the health sector combined with the message that higher education was a good option to consider in the future.”
