Thursday night is curry night at the Rising Sun in Watford.

The Brewers Fayre pub restaurant, which sits on the former site of Sun Printers and was named by readers of the Watford Observer, has introduced a new range of curries.

The seven dish menu has been planned by Anjali Pathak, third generation of the famous Pathak Indian cooking dynasty, and can be sampled for £6.99. For that price you also get a free glass of wine to help wash it down. That’s quality curry made with authentic Pathak spices and a decent drink at a very reasonable price.

You can sample a mild and creamy chicken korma or sweat it out with the fiery vindaloo. Other favourites such as chicken tikka masala, beef Madras and Kashmiri lamb rogun josh are also on the menu.

A value meal for two costs £17 and includes two curries, rice, poppadoms, an Indian trio including naan bread, Bombay potatoes saag aloo and two complimentary drinks.

It’s as good as you will get in an Indian restaurant but here you can enjoy your meal in the more relaxed and traditional pub atmosphere.

The Rising Sun has an expansive formal dining area with attentive table service, high ceilings and good air conditioning but you can dine in the bar too if you prefer.

The table arrangements are such that The Rising Sun can cater for a quiet meal for two or a big family bash just as easily.

And if the children’s palettes are not yet ready for curry there is an extensive menu for younger diners, including favourites such as sausage and mash and tomato pasta as well as a range of organic options. The Kid’s menu costs £3.99 a head.

Brewers Fayre prides itself on value for money and offers two main meals for £9 Monday to Friday before 6:30pm; you can choose between traditional pub classics such as hand battered fish and chips, sirloin steak, gammon steak, beef and ale pie and scampi.

Be warned, the portions are generous but if you do have room for a dessert there is caramel apple crumble, strawberry sundae, sticky toffee pudding and many more.
