RUGBY academy students from Oaklands College were treated to a day of guest speakers to learn more about the role of business in sport.
Yesterday Oaklands' AASE Rugby Academy students heard from different organisations such as NIKE and Sky Sports School of Hard Knocks - who famously use rugby as a team development tool.
Other guest speakers included Chris Davies, head of England Colleges Rugby and Doug Rowe, former marketing manager of US Superbowl.
The day focused on learning about the business side of rugby, profiling, interview and presentation techniques, sponsorship and brand management.
Nicola Caiger, head of sports, Oaklands College, said: “Today offered rugby students a glimpse into the business side of professional sports.
"Even at their age, it’s important for them to be aware of the whole industry and what career opportunities or higher education is available to them off the pitch as well as on.”
Ross McClelland, from Ultimate Rugby, said: “Today is about inspiring and preparing students for higher education and the working world. The day explores transferrable key sports skills that will help them in other aspects of their lives.”
