A HYGIENE expert from St Albans is about to appear in a BBC One television series probing standards of cleanliness in popular foreign holiday resorts.
Lisa Ackerley, who lives in the St Michaels area and runs a food safety consultancy in Albion Road, St Albans, will be shown swabbing hotel rooms, sampling food and testing swimming pool water in The Secret Tourist on Thursday, the first of four episodes.
Each week a real British family visits a hotel to investigate complaints of poor standards, and Ms Ackerley tests the food and water, with the management then confronted with the findings.
She said: "It's a must-watch for everyone who works in the leisure, travel or catering industry and anyone who's going on holiday.
"It teaches businesses what can go horribly wrong and how to avoid potential pitfalls.
"“If you have an all-inclusive holiday, someone is ill and they haven't eaten or swum anywhere else, it's highly likely that the resort is to blame."
