POLICE in Panshanger are offering cyclists marked protection for their bikes to deter opportunist thieves.
Officers are holding a free bike marking event every Saturday in August to help residents protect their bikes from being stolen, and increase the chances of them being returned.
PCSOs Amanda Bridgeman and Christina Cooper have set up four events on Saturdays from 2pm to 5.30pm next month.
They will be held at Panshanger Hardware in Moors Walk shops - on Saturday, August 7, and Saturday, August 21, and at Haldens Christ the King Church Hall - on Saturday, August 14, and Saturday, August 28.
PCSO Christina Cooper said: “I would urge all cyclists to come along to the event to get their bikes marked. There is no need to book – just come along.
“Security marking involves putting the postcode and house number on the bike by engraving and protecting with a lacquer varnish, alternatively bikes can be marked in UV pen. A sticker can be placed on the bike saying that it is security marked which can act as a deterrent to potential thieves.”
